The Candlelight Coffeehouse

The Candlelight Coffeehouse is known for its enchanting ambiance, velvety plush couches, and romantic lighting. It is more a wine bar than a coffee house these days, which is good, because the relaxed atmosphere is especially popular with the gay crowd and nearby college students.

For our local readers, next week a group called GOAL (Going On After Loss) is meeting there to form a venue for lesbians who have lost their partners. As only those who have become a widow know, it’s not an easy row to hoe. It's a time where being alone through your experience is painful. Meeting others who have previously or are currently experiencing many of the same things you are facing could be a crucial source of solace. Guest speakers will cover topics related to emotional, legal and practical aspects of this subject matter. We can all benefit from having support in a safe place to discuss personal concerns and provide answers to important questions to help resolve difficulties. Please pass the word and join us at the Candlelight Coffeehouse & Wine Bar, 3011 N. St. Mary’s, San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday, April 3rd at 7 PM. (Street Parking) General Manager: Juan Garcia 210-738-0099

GOAL is a great goal to have, Camille. It isn't always easy finding support groups tailored to the specific needs of a specific group of people. That void usually has to be filled by persons such as yourself, who have "been there and done that" even though each experience is different, the needs are the same where individual complications are based on what's available or absent in whichever part of the country you live in when such a loss occurs. I know your story by virtue of being a friend, but I think others (total strangers) who are going through the same kind of thing would benefit from knowing it too.

It looks like a neat place to hang out and enjoy an evening. The program sounds good too Cam. Sometimes it's not as easy to share grief about losing a gay partner with straight people on quite the same level you could, or as comfortably would, with another gay person - or to find out what resources would help your situation like heterosexual widowed people automatically have available to them.

I agree with Roxie and Daryl your thoughts ring true too. It's likely the same reversed... some straight widows may not believe a gay person would necessary be able to relate the same way either. Friends are friends though and usually there for each other no matter what lifestyle differences they may have. Good luck Camille. This sounds like a wonderful initiative to champion.

Thank you Roxie, Daryl, and Suzanne. I was able to attend and am appreciative of the founder and participants.
