Sergeant Brandon Adam

Brandon Adam died in Iraq on May 5, 2007. He had no pulse and lost half of his blood before being resuscitated and fighting his way back to life. He was standing at the top of the gun turret of his Humvee when a roadside bomb exploded. It blew him from the rig and the explosion took both of his legs and his life. Although he got his life back - his legs are gone forever.

While recuperating in San Antonio, Texas, the Purple Heart was pinned on Brandon's chest by his Sergeant Major at the hospital about the same time he discovered his humvee driver, Staff Sergeant Maddox was in the same hospital. Brandon was the gunner and SSgt Maddox was the driver who suffered a broken back in the same attack.

Brandon's homecoming was a touching experience for all who participated in Sandpoint where hundreds turned out downtown as he rolled through on his way to a reception. Since that time he continued to move forward with a positive attitude and serves as an inspirational example of the old adage: when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
