Due to her immense over-arching talent, it's nearly impossible to choose her best performance or song as we all look back on the life of Whitney Houston, who passed away this evening at age 48.
Taking us back to where it all began, the video below showcases her first appearance April 29, 1985, when, as a teenager she made her national television debut on "The Merv Griffin Show."
In an off-the-shoulder gown, she stepped onto the stage with clenched hands to sing "Home."
Then-Arista Records head Clive Davis introduced Whitney to the world. He'd seen her at a New York nightclub, signed her, and helped her to become one of the biggest selling artists in music history. Davis sung her praises before many even knew her name - a name that none of us will now forget.
Having Whitney in our homes on TV, at home in our car radios, at home in movie theatres and at home on stages around the world has been very special for many years. I pray her soul may rest in peace as it soars this song of "Home" to Heaven; yet another home to welcome and embrace her.

A Truly remarkable voice and sadly one that we will no longer hear being used to entertain us live. I defy anyone with a heart not to be moved by her singing of the US Anthem, and I am just a Brit
I'm moved by her singing no matter what song it is. Her passionate voice is what made them all touching works of art.
We've just heard rumor she died in the hotel bathtub. Will be horrid if was drinking & drowning to fault.
